The World of Warcraft Warlock Guide

The following WoW warlock guide will attempt to explain the main benefits of choosing to play warlocks. The warlock class focuses primarily on damage over time spells, shadow bolts, and conjuring demons. Casting unholy spells of torment and suffering are a warlock’s stock in trade. Though they are unable to stand toe to toe in up close fighting, they more than make up for it by casting devastating spells from a distance. Exclusive to the warlock class are soul shards, which are consumed by certain spells and must be acquired from defeated mobs. Warlocks are a breeze to level quickly due to the fact that they are very self sufficient when soloing. When raiding, warlocks often do massive amounts of damage and should take care not to pull aggro from the tank.

The only races allowed to be warlocks are Blood Elves, Gnomes, Humans, Orcs, and Undead. The only kind of armor a warlock can equip is of the cloth variety. As for weapons, they are limited to wands, staves, swords and daggers.

There are several demonic minions a warlock can summon including the Imp, Voidwalker, Succubus, Felhunter, Infernal, Doomguard, and Felguard. Each minion possesses unique benefits that you can exploit. Whether it is DoT’s (damage over time), DD (direct damage), or utility functions, the warlock is able to cast a broad range of spells. They are able to utilize soul shards in order to produce several useful items and also to resurrect other players. Other skills include self healing with drain life, and crowd control with the fear line of spells. One of the commonly overlooked advantages that warlocks have is that they do not need to spend nearly as much gold as other classes to get mounts (Dreadsteed and Felsteed).

Affliction talents are meant to improve a warlock’s DoT’s, drains, and curses. This talent spec is good for boss fights, raiding, and farming. Affliction is arguably the best specialization for leveling quickly.

The Demonology talent tree specialization concentrates mainly on spells and additional benefits for your demonic minions that make them stronger and more lethal. Demonology is a great specialization for leveling, PvP, and general survivability. You’ll be heavily reliant on your demons with this spec.

Destruction talents focus on enhancing most shadow and fire spells and making your warlock a high powered direct damage dealer. For Destruction, it is all about the high damage per second (DPS) and massive critical strikes. The Destruction spec is better utilized later in the game, because it is difficult to live long enough to make use of it effectively at lower levels. Note that Destruction is not so great for soloing. Also, keep in mind that it suffers from low mana efficiency and comes with a heavy dependency on farming soul shards. However, it is really cool watching health bars go to zero at lightning speed.
