Solve Your Neck Pain With The Right Pillow

If you wake up with neck pain and have been dealing with this problem for a while, there’s something I want to share with you. This problem can possibly be solved by finding the right pillow and using it in the proper position. In this guide, I’ll share what you need to know. Tight muscles can be caused by stress and most of the time this issue is in your neck. If your pillow isn’t comfortable and is lacking in support, your pain will only get worse. The first step is to find the right pillow.

The first pillow on my list is the body pillow. One of the functions of a good body pillow is to allow your skeletal system to relax. Additionally, a body pillow will also improve the pressure built up in your shoulders, hips, ankles and knees. Pillows that are the length of your body are best suited for people who sleep on their sides. It provides a lot of support for the entire body.

The next pillow is known as the ideal pillow, which allows for your neck to slightly curve forward. This is a similar feel for your neck as if you were sitting or standing, as the curve supports the head. The curve is important when you’re lying down to prevent abnormal bending of the neck which can lead to muscle strain and pain. The recommended height of a pillow is 4 to 6 inches high, which allows the pillow to support your shoulders, neck and head.

Neck pain is often caused due to the lack in pillow support. There’s also the chance your pillow isn’t soft enough. If you have a pillow filled with cotton, make sure to keep an eye on the level of firmness as these pillows often lose their firmness. As the firmness decreases, your neck loses support which could be the reason for pain.

The way you position your pillow is another crucial factor in avoiding pain. As you lay on your back, always make sure your neck has support. If your neck is pointing forward towards your chest, then you’re getting too much support. If you sleep on your side, always keep your pillow in a position that keeps your head in line with your neck.

There have been many claims that positioning a soft pillow under your arms can prevent neck pain. It provides support for your arms. This is best with a feather pillow.

Everyone likes a different type of pillow, but always make sure you’re getting enough support. If you’re getting plenty of sleep and don’t have neck pains, then stick with what you have! If not, then consider making a change and expect a few days before you get used to a new pillow.
