Portability and Connectivity Are Greater than Ever
If someone from the 1950s picked up one of our newspapers today, they would probably be in for a shock. They might even think they were reading a piece of science fiction literature. The technological world is filled with gadgets, devices, systems, and tools that were only fantasy decades ago and yet they have become mainstream and commonplace today.
A quick perusal of a few Technology articles tells a story of a fast-paced world moving ever faster forward. Though there has been great advancement in industrial, commercial, and military fields, a few areas in particular stand out as examples of rapid progress made available to the average person.
One area of interest is the portability of modern technology. Items such as USB flash drives, memory cards and sticks, mp3 players and other such pocket sized or smaller items can transport quantities of data that were unimaginable just a few years ago.
A quick perusal of Technology articles in any magazine will show more and smaller devices for storing, transporting, and sharing data. It is simple to clip a thumb drive to your key chain and carry with you the equivalent of several volumes of paper photo albums or scrapbooks for example, or an entire library of music CDs.
Connectivity is a giant factor contributing to the advance of technology in the digital age. You would have a difficult time finding a place on earth where you would not be able to connect to a satellite and communicate with friends and family, except for a cave or underwater, perhaps.
Technology articles tell us about how not only is there Internet connectivity in most homes, wireless Internet in hotels, coffee shops, and even entire cities, but the connectivity offered by cellular phones and other wireless devices means that anyone can reach anyone else from just about anywhere. Even on the battle field soldiers can find a way to reach home, rather than mailing a letter that might take weeks to arrive, thanks to technology.
Often people debate about whether we are overly dependent upon these new technologies. There is no doubt that they have enhanced lives around the world, giving people ready access to information and individuals.
One of the best ways to stay familiar with the new technologies is to read about them and then use them. The innovation behind the many new inventions is astounding, to say the least. There is so much new technology in today’s world that it is good to stay informed.
