Only Angels Have Wings: Youthful gal fantasies of supporting toy cadets in battle contrary to sinister Mouse Baron in this flat rewording of the classic tale. It is set to Tchaikovsky music. Slow paced low-spending limit excited characteristic, based on the E. T. A. Hoffmann reserve the Nutcracker and the Mouse Emperor; a Disney wannabe that easily isn’t. Cast includes Cary Permit, Jean Arthur, Richard Barthelmess, Rita Hayworth, Thomas Mitchell, Peter Boretski, and Phyllis Diller. (121 minutes, 1939)

Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse OF The Black Pearl: Elizabeth, the daughter of the Jamaican Governor, has been kidnapped by the crew of the Black Pearl. She is needed to lift a curse of the old ship. Elizabeth’s friend Will, who is completely in love with her, gets pirate captain Jack Sparrow to help him rescue her.

Hanna’s War: The real tale of Hungarian freedom fighter Hanna Senesh (Detmers), based in part on her daily log, is a misdirected mess. The youthful, Jewish WW2 martyr warranted a far more superior production than this overlong, uninspiring melodrama. Cast includes Ellen Burstyn, Maruschka Detmers, Anthony Andrews, Donald Pleasence, David Warner, Denholm Elliott, Vincenzo Ricotta, and Ingrid Pitt. (148 minutes, 1988)

Nightmare on Elm Street Part Two: Continuation of first film’s tale (set 5 years later) has an adolescent boy plagued by fantasies of the demonic Freddy, who is motive on taking over both his mind and body so he might murder all the town’s adolescents.
