Is The Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 Worth Buying?

The world of smartphones is a competitive one, and it is poised to become considerably more competitive in the future. We are already seeing the smartphone market gear up for the expected sharp increase in demand that is on the horizon. All industry forecast that the smartphone and cell phone industry is likely to see a phenomenal growth for some period to come. The Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 appeals to consumers that want a smartphone but may not want to pay some of the prices often attached to these modern technological marvels.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 has a resolution of 320×480 and a three-inch touchscreen. If you have a tendency to be a rough on your phones, you might be interested to know that the Xperia X8 has a durable scratch-resistant coating that will stand up to a good amount of abuse. Image quality is respectable, as the TFT touchscreen can show up to 16.7 million colors.

The Xperia X8 is equipped to handle all common video and audio formats such as MP3 and H.264 and it does it well. Just don’t expect the Xperia X8 to measure up to the HTC Desire HD or the Samsung Galaxy because it simply won’t. Both of those phones not only have bigger screens, but have higher resolutions as well. If you want a phone largely for a video player and you want the best quality out there, then the Xperia X8 may not be your best choice.

The processing, memory and RAM on the Xperia X8 will handle many of your mobile computing needs, but its specs clearly don’t live up to many of the pricier smartphones like the HTC Desire HD. For example, the Xperia X8 clocks in at 600MHz, which is well below the 1 GHz that is becoming so standard on today’s smartphones. Likewise, many might find the memory, which can go up to 128 MB, to be a little too small for their needs. Again, however, this is an issue of price point. Your own personal needs are certainly a factor in the decision.

None of this is to state that the Xperia X8 isn’t a completely capable phone. However, if you feel that you need more processing power and performance, you will likely want to look at another option. At its lower price point, the Xperia X8 is a very good contender. It has a great degree of functionality, A-GPS, a 3.2 MP camera, video recording as well as an organizer, a calendar and a variety of apps. It might not have the wow factor of some of the other smartphones on the market, but it does have their functionality without some of the sticker shock that goes along with it.
