Gadgets That We Had But Are No More
You can always tell when the country goes through a period of prosperity because we are suddenly bombarded with a load of gizmos for sale that to be frank are nothing more than extravagance gone mad. Laser guided scissors was a device that would allow you to cut in a straight line; they were great for those who love arts and crafts but could not follow a straight line with a scissors.
Egg Boilers were devices that would replace the very difficult task of placing an egg into a pot of boiling water and then getting it out again three minutes afterwards. Since there are no longer any egg boilers being produced, I am wondering how anyone manages to boil an egg.
Impact alarm clocks was an alarm clock that could be safely thrown against a wall in order to switch off the annoying alarm. You might think that this is a great idea but what happens if you throw it through the window or your teenager manages to put it through the screen on his or her expensive LCD television.
The Sinclair C5 has to be the most embarrassing gadget ever to come out of Britain and what was once reported on the UK national news soon became the next fad to bite the dust. The claim was that the Sinclair C5 would be the answer to the congestion on British roads but the reality is that it was basically a child’s toy disguised as a commuter vehicle. The product which was mass produced by the Hoover Company in an ex-vacuum cleaner factory was scrapped soon afterwards because the company started to suffer losses. It wasn’t long before the staff were in need of another career change.
