Copy Wii Games: An In-Depth Instruction Guide

Lately, I’ve been accosted on the street by readers who recognized me and wished me to write a guide concerning the exact steps that it takes to learn how to backup Wii games. I was afraid that eventually, one of them would bring harm to my physical (and quite attractive) body. So, to prevent that eventuality, I’ve put together this guide today for your reading enjoyment.

From almost the day that the Wii was released, enterprising hackers were providing a way to play backed up games on the Wii. Unfortunately, this involved installing a mod chip inside of your Wii console. Now, I used one of these (and as a result lost my warranty almost 4 years ago). Today, though, you younger Wii gamers are lucky, since there’s a better way.

Now, no mod of the Wii itself is required. Instead, you can simply utilize some rockin’ software which allows you to strip the encryption off of the games – essentially modding the games instead of the console!

So, before I get in trouble for being too wordy, here are the instructions:

One:

Obviously, the first step is going to be to find the game copying software. Just Google the phrase “copy Wii games” and it should be one of the first few results. Save the file to your hard drive on your PC.

Step Numero Dos:

Now, if you’ve ever installed a piece of software on your PC before, you should have no problem with this step. Just double click the file that you downloaded, and accept all of the default settings. (You know, just click next, next, next, ad nauseum). It’ll let you know when it’s finished.

Step Numero Tres:

Dig through your game collection, and pick the first game that you want to backup. Insert it into that little slot on your computer that is your CD drive.

Four:

Start the game clone program that you just installed. (Simply double click the icon within the desktop)

STEP 5

Now, you need to “rip” the game disc. This means that you’ll be copying all of the information on the disc to your computer (you could actually play it on your PC if you download an emulator, but that’s for another article…) In the game copying application, pick “extract”. Now, browse within the software to wherever you want to extract it to. I recommend the root of your C: drive. Start the rip.

Step Numero Seis:

At this point, the copy should be complete. You should have a file ending in .ISO in the location that you specified in the previous step. If not, go back to Step 2 and repeat everything to this point. Retrieve the Wii disc from your CD drive. Run out to the store and buy a blank CD. I’ll wait. Are you back? Good. Now insert the blank disc into your CD or DVD drive. Back in the game copy app, select write mode. Tell it to write the .ISO file that you made in step 5. Start it back up.

Seven:

Sit there for a few minutes and twiddle your thumbs. Or look at a magazine from under your bed. I don’t care. Point is, the burn will take about 15 minutes, so just chill for a few. When the app pops up a screen saying that it’s done, and plays some cheesy music, you’ll know that your game has been burned. Try not to do a happy dance. Now, put the master copy of the game up somewhere safe.

Which means that you now don’t have to be a computer hardware hacker or even void your warranty just to back up games as is your legitimate right. Simply just adhere to these instructions, and you will be fine!
