Article Body A Brief History Of The Halo Franchise
There is no question that the Halo series is one of the most successful video games in the history of the genre. It is a science fiction trilogy, produced by Bungie Studios. The story centers on Master Chief, who is a cybernetically-enhanced, but human protagonist who spearheads the fight against humanities alien enemy known as the Covenant.
Known primarily for it’s assistance in the gigantic success with the Xbox video game console, it’s original release is credited to Mac and personal computers. What was once envisioned as a Real Time Shooter, the idea was quickly scrapped in favor the First Person Shooter theme. The public got it’s initial look at the title at the MacWorld ’99 conference.
The excitement centered around the game caught the attention of Microsoft, a company in need of launch titles for the upcoming and revolutionary console system. By June 2000, Microsoft made an offer to Bungie to the tune of $50 million dollars, securing the game as the ideal accessory available for the launch of the Xbox.
By November 15, 2001, the Xbox was available in stores everywhere. Also available was Halo: Combat Evolved. It was a massive success both critically and in the eyes of the fans. The game sold millions of copies, making the brand new console a solid new player in the rising video game industry. Many sales records were shattered upon release, and continue to be broken. Bungie has since released two sequels and many different types of additional merchandise, including novels, comics, and toys.
A popular factor in the game’s success is the ability to battle your friends over the internet. Despite a tremendous story, it is often the multiplayer aspects that keep players coming back for more. Anyone with a broadband cable provider and an ethernet cable can connect to Xbox Live and begin exploring the amazing fun offered by a revolutionary multiplayer mode.
Most people who have bought the Xbox, or it’s successor the Xbox 360, have purchased these games for good reason. The story is outstanding, but is only part of the thrill. Deep multiplayer fun made possible through Xbox Live has sustained the series for many years. Whether you are a hardcore gamer or a casual one, there is something for everyone in these epic games.
